SPARK PROJECTS SHORTLISTED AT WORLD ARCHITECTURE FESTIVAL

SPARK is happy to announce that 2 of its projects have been shortlisted for awards at this November’s World Architecture Festival in Singapore.

The 2 projects Home Farm and Solar Orchid are part of SPARK’s research agenda that focuses on issues and ideas that concern the social fabric of the cities where SPARK has studios.

Home Farm pairs the normally siloed activities of aged care and urban farming bringing them together in a unique typology that promotes elderly care and well being through market gardening that utilises new ideas of urban aggro technology for the benefit of Home Farm’s residents.

Solar Orchid unites the now struggling Hawker stalls of Singapore that are sadly becoming less ubiquitous with a desire to animate the edges of the Singapore River that in almost all areas the city has turned its back on. SPARK’s proposal locates our reinterpretation of the Hawker stall as a modular floating pontoon organised in clusters off the river embankment. SPARK’s Solar Orchid has been designed to assist reinvigorating interest in Singaporean Hawker cuisine and South East Asian food culture by presenting it to a wider audience. Solar Orchid at the same time galvanises activity along Singapore’s waterfront redolent of the city’s yesteryear commercial water based trading when bum boats served the river facing shop-houses in a frenetic dance of activity.

Our shortlisting is testament to SPARK’s commitment  to research and develop self-funded initiatives that we believe fill the gaps in the social and cultural infrastructure of the places we live, work and enjoy being”.
