Sited on the curve of the Huangpu River’s north Bund, Spark’s 260,000 sqm Shanghai International Cruise Terminal was completed in 2011 and combines a chorus line of headquarter office buildings with substantial subterranean retail facilities within the context of a new one kilometre long public park. Cultural and social spaces form the centre piece of the development – an extraordinary composition of suspended enclosures named the ‘Shanghai Chandelier’. The project also uses the latest in renewable energy systems including river water cooling, a Spark first for the use of this technology in Shanghai.
