SPARK’S Taizhou Fish Market wins ICONIC AWARD 2025

SPARK ARCHITECTS wins Iconic Award 2025 in the category: Concept – Urban Planning and Landscape for Taizhou Fish Market IN TAIZHOU, CHINA.

For over a decade, the internationally renowned ICONIC AWARDS have recognised forward-thinking projects and sustainable solutions across architecture, urban planning, and design. Judged by an independent jury of global experts in architecture, landscape, design, and materials, the award celebrates projects that that embody innovation and vision, and shape the future of our built environment.

Inspired by Taizhou’s rich fishing heritage, the 230,000 sqm development along the Jiaojiang River reimagines the traditional fish market as a multifunctional hub blending commerce, culture, and leisure. At its heart lies The Fulcrum a striking plaza and canopy that links the waterfront and commercial street, hosting events and gatherings. The design integrates wholesale trading, cold storage, and logistics with exhibition halls, retail, and community facilities, creating a vibrant waterfront destination for both industry and the public.

Anchored in the philosophy of “Tourism Driven by Industry,” the project supports Taizhou’s seafood economy while positioning the city as a landmark destination within the Yangtze River Delta. Currently under construction, the Taizhou Fish Market exemplifies SPARK’s commitment to designing places that connect people, culture, and commerce.

We thank the German Design Council for this prestigious recognition and congratulate everyone involved in making the Taizhou Fish Market a reality. Special acknowledgment goes to the project’s lead architects and designers Stephen Pimbley, Yun Wai Wing, Yan Dan, Jing Huairui, and Javier Campoy for their vision and dedication.
