The retail industry is going through a difficult time with challenges to its traditional customer base from e-commerce, however, retail focussed projects particularly at transit hubs such as railway and metro stations are flourishing. SPARK has designed a hybrid of a shopping mall and metro station for Sinoreal in Shenzhen. The mall areas form a ring of retail, dining and entertainment facilities sitting above and connected to 2 city metro lines and adjacent bus interchange. The metro station is transformed from the utilitarian infrastructure facility of ticket counter and platform, to become a connected attractive destination for those who prefer to shop and eat in the centre of the city. The partly naturally day-lit subterranean mall becomes a short cut connecter for the city and convenient connector to the bus and rail transport network through its generous streets and shopping arcades. The mall offers 24 hour retail services via touch screen shopping delivered directly to you front door as well as traditional retail and F+B outlets and animated event plazas.

“THE METRO STATION IS TRANSFORMED FROM THE UTILITARIAN INFRASTRUCTURE FACILITY OF TICKET COUNTER AND PLATFORM, TO BECOME A CONNECTED ATTRACTIVE DESTINATION FOR THOSE WHO PREFER TO SHOP AND EAT IN THE CENTRE OF THE CITY.THE PARTLY NATURALLY DAY-LIT SUBTERRANEAN MALL BECOMES A SHORT CUT CONNECTER FOR THE CITY AND CONVENIENT CONNECTOR TO THE BUS AND RAIL TRANSPORT NETWORK THROUGH ITS GENEROUS STREETS AND SHOPPING ARCADES“
